My Bio
I started this series of studies, what I prefer to call "experiments," as a way to cope with a new diagnosis of a mental disorder. When I received that diagnosis, it shattered every concept that I had of myself as an individual, partner, and a woman. Tearing paper in different ways reminds me that even if my concepts of things get torn apart, I can piece them back together into something new.
One of my favorite quotes is from Cheryl Strayed, who said: "Sometimes the only way to wholeness is to tear everything apart."
My only rule with my experiments is this : No cutting with scissors, knives, x-actos etc. If you think of any suggestions, feel free to message me and I will give credit for your idea :)

    1.       Grading is arbitrary- there’s a weird balance of making what the art teacher thinks is “good’ art versus what if you actually enjoyed making it or the end product    2.       Not every drawing/painting/sculpture is going to be or has to be a masterpiece- what I realize in retrospect was that I was taking classes so I could learn the basics so that I could use those later. If I had realized that when I was actually taking classes I think I would have had a lot less anxiety    3.       Drawing isn’t just a visual experience- you use multiple senses you get a more immersive experience. Touch, smell, sight

One of my most influential teachers and I were talking about a wonderful art piece she'd made but had been ruined by mice eating it. "Take care of your work," she said, "Just find a way to take care of them. They are who you were and where you came from and as I'm learning, where you should go."

Reminiscing

Just trying to get inspiration from reading some of my early journal entries. This was a doodle I'd painted back in 2008, back when I dabbled in watercolor more often than I do now.
